Welcome to the Sound The Siren – Rock For MS / Rock Against MS Series 2013 to 2017 archive pages. This website is a replica of the original website and is not functional, but a memory of what we all did as a West Australian music and local community who donated all of our services for free to raise funds for MSWA.
Welcome to Rock For MS / Rock Against MS.
Working together to bring positive change to the lives of people living with MS through music and entertainment while crusading for a cure.
MS affects about 2.5 million people worldwide
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an incurable disease of the central nervous system that can affect the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. While studies, trials and treatments continue to be researched and implemented to help to halt the progression of the disease, there is currently no cure for MS.
MS can affect anyone at any age
A person may be the healthiest, brightest person you know. Did you know that most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40 years of age?
MS can affect anyone; A health care professional, a sports person, a parent, a co-worker, a boss, an employee, unemployed or employed, drinker or non-drinker, a minister, a teacher, a lawyer, a brick layer, a bike rider, a rising star, a personality, a child, teenager or adult, male or female, the person next to you, or anyone in your family.
When MS (or Many Scars) attacks, shorts in the circuitry (lesions along the frayed areas of the neural pathways caused by the autoimmune system becoming confused and attacking itself) prevent the correct messages from getting through to other parts of the body. Multiple sclerosis is a disease with unpredictable symptoms varying in intensity. While some people have fatigue and numbness, severe cases can cause paralysis, vision loss, and diminished brain function. General intelligence is usually not affected.
A good support network
A good support network for pwMS (people with MS) is essential. This is why we at Rock For MS/Rock Against MS give our support to MSWA who offer a fantastic level of service in the areas of not only research and funding for MS and other neurological conditions, but are also committed to providing support in the areas of Nursing, Physiotherapy, Counselling, Occupational Therapy, Welfare Assistance, Community Care Program and Carers.
